The story of the San Antonio Shoemakers(tm) (SAS) family begins with its founders, Terry Armstrong and Lew Hayden. The two first met in Pittsfield, Maine, but their passion for making quality footwear led them to San Antonio, Texas. After working for a local shoe company, Terry and Lew struck out on their own.
They had a vision of how genuine leather shoes should be made. With determination, and the support of their families, the two pooled their resources to start their first factory in a corner of an unused aircraft hangar on the South Side of San Antonio. In 1976, San Antonio Shoemakers was born.
They started small, with just 13 shoemakers and no marketing beyond word of mouth. The SAS reputation grew and became a name people could trust for comfortable, quality footwear. In 1985, SAS opened a factory in Del Rio, Texas, keeping their business in Texas while allowing for expansion.
Today SAS, continues its dedication to quality and comfort, while expanding the brand to include dozens of new styles and colors. Now, SAS’s line features everything from walking and athletic shoes to pumps, flats, sandals, and even new boots for women. The men’s line has expanded to include walking and athletic wear to dress shoes, and expanded fresh comfort casual offerings. Every day, SAS finds a way to help you Keep Moving(tm).
I was so excited about this sandal that I ordered it in four colors. It seemed as though the footbed was the same as the pair of SAS slip ons that I have been living in for the past few years. Sadly, it is not. This footbed is cork, not the smooth foamy footbed of the other SAS sandals. I was in for a very unpleasant surprise when I wore the first pair for a day and the cork actually folded/creased with each step, causing a really uncomfortable feeling on the bottom of my foot. Major SAS fail. Of course Zappos was great about returning the unworn pairs. I'm just bummed that they did not work out. I was counting on wearing them on vacation.
The shoe was beautiful but the wrong size. I ordered 7 1/2 and was sent a 7. It also seemed extremely narrow for a wide.
I agree with another customer. The shoe widens as it get to toes and does look like duck feet. Returned.
Larger that expected. I will be returning them because they are too big :[
Ordered WW, felt like a medium. Returned.
Returned, not pleased with shoe. Ordered WW, fit like a medium.
Liked that the heel was very cushioned and comfortable, but this shoe squeaked so loudly with every step that I could not keep it. The description on this page says the shoe is genuine leather, but the label on the shoe tongue does *not* say leather - it does not say anything about the materials which seems to always mean the shoe materials are completely man made. Perhaps the specifications on this shoe have changed since it was initially offered by SAS, and they have changed the materials. This shoe looked, felt, and smelled like artificial leather (that is, plastic.) Have worn SAS in the past and remember them as better than this. Overall this was a very uneven experience so I had to return.
It's difficult to find combination of comfort and style. SAS Marina has both -- not at all "clunky" looking. Love these shoes!
Cute shoes, but they do run large! I had to send the first pair back and order a half size smaller.
I have extensive arthritis in my feet. This shoe has the right combination of support and comfort. Plus I feel they are attractive . I purchased a pair in black and white.bdatamia
